RSHE Conference North West 2026: Talking About Non-Fatal Strangulation

Monday 2nd February 2026 | Manchester | Limited to 30 places

From September 2026, Non-Fatal Strangulation will be a mandatory topic within RSHE guidance and this year’s RSHE Conference North West will take an unflinching look at how we prepare educators to teach it safely, confidently and compassionately.

Why are we talking about this?

Because we have to.

  • Changes to the Domestic Abuse Act now recognise Non-Fatal Strangulation as a standalone offence, reflecting the serious and often hidden harm it causes.
  • Police and CPS data show a significant increase in reported cases, especially among young women and girls.
  • And within youth culture, there’s a growing normalisation of strangulation in sexual behaviours, often without understanding consent, risk or trauma.

I have recently completed in-depth, multi-agency training with Police, CPS, and Health professionals, gaining frontline insights into the legal, psychological, and medical realities of Non-Fatal Strangulation.

At the conference, I’ll be sharing this learning first-hand, bringing together RSHE expertise, trauma-informed practice, and youth work experience to bridge the gap between policy and practice, equipping teachers, practitioners, and school leaders with the knowledge, confidence and practical tools to address Non-Fatal Strangulation as part of the updated RSHE curriculum.

You’ll explore:

  • What the 2026 RSHE guidance says about teaching this topic.
  • The real-life impact of Non-Fatal Strangulation on victims and survivors.
  • How to have open, age-appropriate conversations with students about harmful sexual behaviours, boundaries, and safety.
  • Interactive classroom activities that help young people understand risk in a way that truly sticks.
