Vulva in Your Vocab…It’s Official!

My first work as a peer educator delivering sex ed aged 16

Anyone who knows me will know I’ve been banging on about ‘vulva in your vocab’ for years. Ten years, to be exact. And today…it happened.

The government has finally released their updated RSHE guidance and guess what it says? That schools must explicitly teach the names of body parts, including VULVA.

Now, I’m not saying I can take all the credit… but let’s be honest, I’ve been out here pushing this conversation, challenging the taboos, and championing body literacy for a whole decade. From “we can’t say that in class” to “it’s written in statutory guidance”…what a journey.

This is more than a word. It’s about language, confidence, consent, health, equality…it’s about girls (and boys) having the right words to understand their own bodies and advocate for themselves.

So today, I’m celebrating. Viva la vulva! #KnowYourBody

And if you want to work with someone who’s been ahead of the curve on this for years, from training staff, to designing resources, to delivering direct workshops with young people…then let’s talk. This is the work I live and breathe.
