Vulva Cancer UK Awareness Launch New Campaign #KnowYourVulva

Vulva cancer survivor and Vulva Cancer UK Awareness campaignerΒ Clare Baumhauer has joined forces with Lichen Sclerosus Awareness UK and Pelvicroar to launch Vulva Cancer Awareness Week.

The week, which will run from Monday 5th November – Sunday 11th November aims to get women talking about the vulva and wants to raise the profile of gynaecological cancer of the vulva which often features much less than other female cancers in awareness campaigns.

The online campaign is supported by Lloyds Pharmacy who are showing their support by displaying the campaign’s posters and leaflets in their chemist.

And Tough Cookies Education, a sex and relationships education company have designed a FREE downloadable lesson plan which can be used in youth centres, health clinics, schools and by parents to teach young women about the vulva. Sex educator and Tough Cookies founder, Kerry Cabbin said; ‘It is so important to teach young people to get to know their bodies, by doing so we are able to tackle any teen body angst and improve the chances of early detection, helping young people feel less embarrassed and happy to seek advice from medical staff.’ You can download a copy of the lesson plan HERE.

Across the week the campaigners will be using social media to raise awareness discussing what is vulva cancer, know your vulva, the symptoms of vulva cancer, vulva self-checks, asking for help and there will be a GO PURPLE DAY where they want you to Go Purple to show your support for vulva cancer awareness.

image4Clare said; ‘On Friday the 9th of November, we would love to see lots of people wearing the colour purple and using the campaign hashtag –Β  #KnowYourVulva. You can wear as much purple as you like, purple hair, make-up, or even snap yourself wearing your purple PJ’s or painting your nails – anything goes.’ Any donations towards the campaign can be made to The Eve AppealΒ
